Star Girl Aesthetic: The Brat Follow-up for Party Girls
•Posted on March 14 2025
Brat summer has come and gone, but the girlies got a taste of the hot girl messy nightlife and they're not relinquishing it that easily. Enter: Star Girl. While not a perfect double of Brat, the Star Girl has significant overlap. In fact, I'd say the Star Girl is very much brat, she embodies the essence, the attitude, the style. She's messy, she's out to have fun and party, and look hot while she's doing it. No, Star Girl isn't Brat, but it's its spiritual successor.

Before the Star Girl: Inspiration for the Star Girl Aesthetic
The precise emanation of the Star Girl aesthetic is unknown, and therefore debatable. Most commonly, the Star Girl is attributed to the Weeknd and several of his songs, but it's also said to come from the literal star motif that Star Girls are partial to wearing.
The name may also come from the general vibe and the persona of the girl who wears this style - she's the main character, she's a celebrity, a socialite, a party girl, a rockstar. She is a star of New York City nightlife. Think real life Gossip Girl.
Luxury is a big part of the branding of this aesthetic, and that may make you think this is a rich girl aesthetic only, but that's not true. Anyone can dress up as a Star Girl; it's not about the price or the provenance of the outfits, it's about the attitude and the style. And at Boogzel Clothing, we've got oodles of style!
Key Elements of the Star Girl Aesthetic
Any distinct aesthetic has some hero pieces that create the vibe and shoulder most of the star power for that look. When it comes to Star Girl, star motifs take center stage, but there are a lot of other elements that bring the iconic look together.
Y2K
The main point of inspiration here is Y2K style and fashion, so a lot of what you'll see with Star Girl is an echo, repeat, or reinvention of trends and styles from the early 2000s.
Layered tops like camis over long-sleeves, bras and bralettes under sheer tops, tons of sparkle, black bras under white tops, and a general lack of polish are all characteristic for the Star Girl persona and her style.
The silhouettes are heavily reminiscent of the 2000s, so we see a lot of small top big bottom with this style.

Star motifs
Of course, the most recognizable aspect of this style, by far - and at least partly the reason for its nomenclature - star motifs are huge for the Star Girl aesthetic.
While other aesthetics may add a star item occasionally, the Star Girl will pair a starry pair of jeans with a star purse and a baby tee with a big star patch on it. Extra? For sure. But the Star Girl is not into subtlety. She's the main character, so she doesn't mind an over the top party outfit.

Get the look:
Denim
Denim is a big material for the Star Girl aesthetic, and you'll find it in a lot of different key pieces. The denim mini skirt is one that appears time and time again and can be paired with a ton of different outfits. Imagine a black denim mini with a pair of fishnets and knee high boots.
Or a pair of wide-leg jeans with star patches, and maybe even a matching star denim jacket. A Star Girl isn't a Star Girl without the star patches.
You get double Star Girl points if the stars on your jeans are rhinestones - remember how I said Y2K is a huge point of inspo? Sparkle is quintessentially Star Girl and rhinestones are back on top.

Get the look:
Mini hemlines
Midis might still be trending overwhelmingly, but the mini skirt is back. Miu Miu rang them in in 2022 with their micro mini and we've been seeing a steady incline ever since. Low rise and hardly wider than a belt, micro mini hemlines are very Y2K and thus, a staple of the Star Girl aesthetic.
Jean skirts are a great way to wear this style, but you may also want to take a look at leather skirts, and black minis, in general. There's nothing they don't go with, but they're especially good with heels and crop tops. A classic "going out" outfit.

Get the look:
Knee high boots
One of the hottest pieces of this season are knee-high boots, so this is definitely something you may already have in your wardrobe and that can be perfect for a star girl fit.
Star Girls love knee high boots because they're hot, and honestly, they make any outfit look good. Think of a patent leather pair with pointy toes and a high heel. Imagine it paired with a denim mini, or with a pair of casual jeans and a see-through top. Add some rhinestone accessories, and you're there.

Get the look:
Heels
Is there partying without a great pair of heels? Star Girls think not. You'll want a pair of boots - ankle boots are good, knee high boots are better. They go great with a mini skirt and they let your sparkly tights shine. Do you still have a pair of fishnets in the back of your closet? This is the time to take them out.
Most of the shoes for this aesthetic are black - but the best ones are definitely the ones that have some sparkle incorporated - rhinestones, glitter, sequins - anything to add some shine to an otherwise basic pair of heels is very main character, very luxe, and truthful to the Star Girl image.

Get the look:
Black
Black? For a trendy aesthetic? Groundbreaking. Yes, we know, black is extremely common, but listen - there's a reason for that. Black is versatile, it's flattering, and it's hot, which is extremely important for the Star Girl aesthetic.
Anything looks more elegant, more expensive, and more chic in black. It's the easiest shortcut to looking like an IT girl socialite. Just throw on a pair of black boots and a little black dress and every style section wants to know who that girl is.

Get the look:
Metallics
Metallics and sparkle are the other big "color" - or should we say, texture that should make up your Star Girl wardrobe. A Star Girl loves anything shiny or sparkly, so the silver metallic trend is a fantastic overlap.
I'm sure you've seen those silver metallic denim pieces around - jackets, mini skirts, corsets, dresses - David Bowie-core, or Star Girl? If a full-on silver outfit is too much for you, then perhaps a pair of silver shoes can satiate your shiny appetite and check a Star Girl box, but without going overboard.

Get the look:
Leather
This is quite a nightlife focused aesthetic, and leather is a focal point. If you think about it, leather has quite a lot of distinct aesthetics, looks, and messaging. Leather is tough and edgy, it's sexy and sensual, it's utilitarian, it's luxe - and it perfectly completes the Star Girl look.
If the star girl is characterized by chaotic glam, then throwing on a leather jacket on top of your sexy going out outfit is the perfect way to make it more casual, more careless, and instantly cooler.
Wear a leather jacket on top of a jeans and a bra outfit or a mini dress, or put on a pair of low-rise leather pants if you really want to kick it up a notch.

Get the look:
Messy hair & makeup
True Star Girls don't give a...they're just casually cool. So, they're never overly coiffed, and their makeup is never perfectly applied. On the contrary, the hair and makeup should be messy, grungy, worn in, slept in, a little smeared. Think I-came-back-from-partying-last-night-and-didn't-take-my-makeup-off-yet. Kate Moss in her heyday.
You can achieve this look by doing a quick, imprecise smokey eye and either letting your hair be free with its natural texture, or pin it up loosely, with some face framing pieces pulled out randomly. You woke up like this!

Star Girl Outfits
If you've been looking for some outfit inspo for your new favorite aesthetic, we've got your back. It's not enough to have the fishnets, and the heels, and the star print jeans - you also have to have some cute ideas on how to pair them together. Here are some of our favorite Star Girl outfit combos:
Oversized leather jacket outfit
The oversized leather jacket does a lot of heavy lifting in this outfit, but even without it, the fit retains the typical Star Girl essence and layout. Small skirt, small top, tall, sleek boots. Big jacket on top, and everything black, of course. The addition of the dark sunglasses makes you look even cooler and more untouchable. You can't be the main character without dark sunglasses.

Leather pants outfit
The Star Girl aesthetic hinges a lot on use of leather in chic and glamorous ways, as opposed to rough biker. So your leather pants should be worn with heels and a short, tight top. Once again, the fit is all black, the purse is small, and the girl is ready to party.
The body itself plays a big part here, but not in that it needs to be necessarily skinny, but in that showing off the body in tight clothes is part of the look. The Star Girl is as sexy as she is messy - party girls always are.

Big jeans outfit
Has there ever been a more Star Girl outfit? This particular look leads with the big jeans, a foundational element of the Star Girl look, and it pairs the pants with the smallest top imaginable.
But equally important, pay attention to the way the hair looks - dishevelled, almost an afterthought. That's part of the look, you want it to look like you slept in it last night after partying, and now you just woke up and you're ready to go again.
Notice the dark sunglasses again? Day, night, indoors, outdoors, they're essential.

Being a Star Girl is just as much about attitude as it is about the outfit, but wearing the right pieces in the right way definitely helps things along. If you're shopping for the ultimate Star Girl fit, look no further than Boogzel Clothing. We're the one stop shop for the trendiest jeans, star prints, and sparkly everything!
