What is Blokette Core? Exploring the New Aesthetic for Sporty Girls
•Posted on September 10 2024
You've heard of Coquette, now get ready for...Blokette?! What is it, where did it come from, and how to you wear it? And what IS a bloke, anyway?? Keep reading to find out!
What Is Blokette Core?
You read that right, Blokette Core is a real thing and it sits at the intersection of Bloke Core and Coquette Core. Or otherwise said, at the intersection of masculine and feminine, of sporty and cutesy, of lad culture and girlypop culture. It's the unique, irreverent, visually striking style of combining typically sporty elements blokes would wear with the epitome of femininity. Good fashion comes from tension between opposites and from contrast, and this aesthetic takes that to its most intense iteration.
Where does Blokette come from? Well, it can, of course, be traced back to Bloke Core, but it's also clearly influenced by other aspects of pop culture, from the World Cup, to Challengers, to the Paris Olympics. The last couple of years have been very sports-heavy, and the girlies want to participate and make it their own.
What Are the Defining Elements of Blokette Core?
The bread and butter of Blokette Core are the most "extreme" elements of each style. So, the sportiest, most traditionally masculine items, as well as the most delicate, girly, feminine ones.
No Blokette outfit is complete without pastel pink ribbons, or without a pair of beat up Adidas sneakers. Sports jerseys are also huge for this aesthetic, as are frilly skirts. What you want is that extreme overlap.
mary-janes & ballet flats
THE shoe of the moment, you'd be hard-pressed to find something that mary-janes don't suit, and sports paraphernalia is no different. They can instantly girl-ify any outfit, no matter how masculine, lad-y, or sporty. Along with ballet flats, they bring that delightful femininity, while still being comfortable.

skirts
The pleated mini is THE Blokette skirt, because it's another element that's quintessentially sporty, as well as cutesy. A tennis skirt is the perfect compromise. But midi skirts are also popular for this style, especially the perennial white midi that we've seen across multiple -cores in 2024.
Get the look:
kitten heels
For a feminine twist on a bloke-y fit, kitten heels are ideal. They're girly, but still somewhat lowkey, they're easy to walk in, and if you really think about it, they're the feminine version of cleats.
Get the look:
sports jersey
The sports jersey is the basis for a majority of the Blokette Core fits, because it dresses down any ensemble and gives it a distinctly sporty vibe. Don't you just want to hike up your shorts and shout a British expletive at a rival sports team when you put on a sports jersey? Congratulations, you are now an honorary lad, or a bloke.
Get the look:
knee socks & leg warmers
You can't do Blokette without knee high socks, and I'll tell you why - they're the one item - perhaps even the only one - that's at the intersection of Bloke Core and Coquette. Sports socks and cutesy schoolgirl socks are both acceptable in this instance, as long as you pair them with the opposite shoe - so, mary-janes with sporty shorts and sneakers with your cute socks.
Get the look:
ruffles
You don't need to be a fashion genius to know that ruffles are cute and coquette. Really, even the blokes can probably figure this one out. Do you fancy DIY-ing a sports jersey to add a ruffle? The girlies have been turning them into dresses. But you can also just pick Easy Mode and wear a ruffly skirt.
Get the look:
bows & ribbons
What's more coquette than bows and ribbons? Whether you wear them in your hair or you use them to adorn and cute-ify your ugly sportswear, ribbons and bows are absolutely essential as they're often the "-ette" part of Blokette.
Get the look:
sporty sneakers
You can't be a Blokette without a pair of sneakers. While most sneaker styles will do in a pinch, we're mainly looking for sporty sneakers, and not the chunky fashion ones. Adidas Sambas or Gazelles are the perfect choice, unless you want to go full footballer and wear cleats. No, they won't be comfortable, but they'll be very Blokette.
Get the look:
sporty stripes
Fashion has flirted with sporty stripes before, so this isn't anything new, but it's a nice and subtle way to do Blokette Core , if you don't want to go full sports jersey. A black midi dress with a white stripe running down the side is perfectly feminine, while also giving a nod to a sportier vibe.
Get the look:
pastel pink
Pink is Coquette, so it's a must have for Blokette . If you put a sports jersey next to anything pastel pink, it automatically becomes cuter, more demure, more coquette.
Get the look:
sports logos
One of the most important aspects of Blokecore is the sports paraphernalia. Blokes are always wearing some kind of item of clothing featuring a sports brand logo or a sports team. Adidas, Nike, Manchester United - it's all fair game. So we have to bring it over to Blokette Core to round up the look.

How to Dress in the Blokette Core Aesthetic
Now that you've got all the building blocks, it's time to put together some outfits. The good news is that it's easy to be a Blokette, and it's also super comfortable. Plus you won't feel out of place accompanying your boyfie to the football game.
sports jersey + full midi skirt + sporty socks + mary janes
While Blokette Core has many varied permutations, this seems to be THE winning format that most girlies are adopting. It's easy, it's cute, and we've all got those white midi skirts laying around from Tomato Girl Summer.
sports zip up jacket + pleated mini + leg warmers + sneakers
Fall and back to school season is the ideal time for a pleated mini. Recycle your mini skirt from your Dark Academia era and pair it with a clashing sporty zip-up. Finish off the look with ruffle socks or leg warmers for a perfect Blokette look.
sporty polo + white tiered midi + ribbon laces
Swapping out your sneakers' laces for silky ribbons is one of the cornerstones of Blokette Core. It gives any outfit a more feminine, flirty vibe, and it goes a long way to tone down the lad shirt. And just look at how good it looks with that super feminine peasant skirt.
frilly coquette blouse + running shorts + ballet flats
A frilly, coquette top looks beautiful with a feminine skirt, but it can look infinitely cooler with a pair of running shorts. Add white socks to make it Blokette Core to the max, and a pair of ballet flats to go with the top. If you feel daring and ready to push boundaries, make the ballet flats tabis.
Blokette IT Girls to Use as Inspo
While Blokette Core has plenty of influencers stunting fits on TikTok and Insta, it doesn't compare to seeing your favorite celeb wearing it. And really, that's how a lot of these styles come to become A Thing, and Blokette is no different. There are plenty of girlies you can look to for inspo, but none cooler than IT girls.
Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid is the unofficial, crown-less queen of Blokette Core. Whether she's aware of it or not is debatable, but she's the one to watch. Her street style is quintessentially Blokette, and you've got a lot to learn from her. Like how to get away with leaving the house without putting pants on. We're in awe.
Hailey Bieber
Where there's a street style trend, there's Hailey Bieber. Yes, she got there first, once again, and she continues to be ahead of the curve and a trend setter. She makes Blokette Core work for her by pairing her oversized jersey with very short shorts, preppy white socks, and a massively oversized leather trench. The proportions here are inspirational.
Julia Fox
Quite frankly, no trend list or article is complete without the presence of Julia Fox. Love her or hate her, she is here, she is present, and she is the moment. And she's on top of - or ahead of - every trend, Blokette Core is no different. Take inspiration from the way she manages to make an oversized sports jersey sexy. Witchcraft!
Will you try to be a Blokette this fall season? Whether you want a sporty baby tee, a cheeky mini skirt, or a pair of stripey sweats, look no further than Boogzel Clothing for all your back to school Blokette Core needs.
